Kittens

This is the third year in a row that a stray momma kitty has wandered onto our property and given birth to litter of kitties. Thankfully its pretty easy to find kitten lovers around here....

But as Ogden Nash's little poem goes,
"The trouble with a kitten is that,
Eventually it becomes a cat."

We have three cats already, a dog and a rabbit. Soon we are adding chickens to the mix once again. Who knows what else after that...

Thankfully these friends love these little guys and I know they will give them a good home.

Have a great day!

10 MIN SIXPACK WORKOUT // No Equipment | Pamela Reif

Today I am sharing an extremely challenging 10 minute ab routine. I cannot make it through this yet but I am hoping that I will after trying to complete this every day for the next 60 days.

I wrote down all the exercises to look at during this routine.
I plan to take it with me on vacation (Hawaii whoopwhoop!) or just look back at this post.

As you know, this blog is a chronicle for me of what I have tried and what I feel works for my body. If it can help anyone else then that is an added bonus!

90 Day Sprint Sucesses and Failures

I started my 90 day sprint on May 4th. I still have a few days to go and I have been very happy w my fitness results however, my home goals have not  quite been met. I haven't fully reached my fitness goal but I'm SO close! My home is very organized but I have still not unpacked all of our boxes in our sheds. Of course I will keep going and I really think that point of setting this goal is to go hard after what you are attaining and to develop habits that will continue long after your 90 Day Sprint is over. I do plan to set another goal but it will be only 60 days of 10X goals and 10X focus. More on that in a future post.

Through much trial and error I know exactly what my aging body needs in order to perform at it's peak and to gain muscle. Intermittent Fasting did not work for me.  I'm sure it is because I wasn't doing it right and I know the mistakes I made but it just isn't something I enjoyed doing. I'm seeing greater results eating 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking and trying to get at least 30 grams of protein at every meal. I found the using my Fitbit is a tremendous motivator as well as using my Fit Index Scale and the My Fitness Pal App. I learned that my cardio on my rebounder should be performed AFTER my strength training routine found in this post. This not only burns more fat but it allows your body to use all the strength available to perform the circuit training set. I'm much more aware of what I put into my mouth and how it makes me feel. My inflammation has been greatly reduced.

My home goals are doing well as far as organizing my entire home is concerned. I am very pleased with how we have things set up currently and I have a few days to fix a few problem areas. I did enjoy organizing and purging quite a few unneeded items. I enjoyed making things pretty for my girls and our home. My little boy keeps his room very clean as well as my oldest daughter. We have come up with an easy system for my younger girls and will continue to purge and declutter monthly as I have learned this is an ongoing process. I still have so much to do outside of our home. I have many boxes to unpack and sheds to go through. I will be brutal when going through these boxes because I love the feel of our home right now and do not want to add much to it. It may be hard to let some things go but I know the peace we feel in living w less.

My last area that I did not share with all of you was my children's summer reading. I'm very impressed and proud at the effort my kids have put forth for their summer reading program. They read every day at 10:00 am or earlier. My son is halfway through the Hobbit )I asked him what is next and he looked at me like I was crazy. Lord of the Rings of course. That's my boy.  My oldest daughter is on her last chapter of Amos Fortune. She is excited to start on Number the Starts next. Bookie and Kate have been working on their handwriting and reading small books and going through workbooks throughout the summer. I'm very happy to see my children reading books on their own and Emma getting ahead in her schoolwork. The practice of reading at a certain time every day has made it easy on all of us. No one has to ask anyone to read and the children just automatically know what they should be doing to get in their reading every day.

So there you have it, folks. My experience with a 90 day sprint. It felt great to have a longer term goal to keep focused on and to keep me on track. I highly recommend setting goals and aiming for a target. You will not hit a target that you cannot see. I'm glad I set some clear targets and I may not have hit a bullseye but I got very close and I intend to continue on until I do!

Thank you for reading.

Five Friday Favorites Anti Aging Edition

Hello everyone, today I want to share my Five Friday Favorites Anti Aging Edition.

I am focusing on antiaging products that are a must for my beauty regimen. I have been using these products since my mid thirties and have seen a dramatic improvement in my skin.

The use of a daily exfoliator, microneedling, glycolic acid and red light therapy are what I believe have slowed down the aging process of my skin dramatically. I am using in my current skincare routine below as well but my cleansers and moisturizers do change. I like the kaolin clay cleanser but I sometimes use the Acne Free Cleanser when I am nearing my monthly cycle as it prevents monthly breakouts. I also use Retin-A but switch to something less potent in the summer months, the Roc for sensitive skin has less retinol than the regular formula.

This is a small jar but a little goes a long way. I LOVE this mask as a cleanser. It tones my skin as well reduces pore visibility.  I usually wet my skin and spread a small layer of this cleanser on and let it sit for a minute or two while I'm brushing my teeth, I then use my Mia Clarasonic to remove it.

This clarasonic does an AMAZING job cleansing and exfoliating my skin. I have tried the knock-off brands and they do not compare nor do they work. Save yourself the money and just go for the Clarasonic when you can. There is something superior about the sonic technology with the exfoliating brush.

I have been using Glycolix Elite 20% pads for four years now and they are my favorite, cannot live without, skincare product. You do not have to rinse the product off like you do with other glycolic acid products. I cannot tell you enough how these pads brighten and clear my skin. These pads minimize my pores, fine lines and feel so refreshing. They can be a bit pricey but I sometimes cut these in half and they work just as well. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to test it out in an inconspicuous spot to make sure they do not irritate your skin. You should also try using them every other day until you are sure your skin has adjusted to them. Also, don't use around the sensitive eye area. Try them, I am confident you will see an improvement in your skin.

This is a handy little tool that I believe to be a vital part of my skincare routine. Microneedling actually promotes collagen production in your skin by creating tiny little punctures in your skin. Your body then sends extra collagen to heal those little puncture wounds which reduces the appearance of scarring, stretchmarks or wrinkles. It doesn't hurt but it may feel a little uncomfortable when you use your microneedler for the first few times. Just apply gentle pressure and then continue to increase pressure each day.

5. RoC

As I said, I use a variety of moisturizers but I like RoC as an over the counter retinol treatment. I prefer a lower percentage of retinol for the summer use as it makes my skin less sensitive to the sun.

And here is my bonus favorite that will dramatically improve the texture of your skin in just two weeks:

NASA uses red light therapy because wounds do not heal as quickly in space as they do on earth. Red light stimulates collagen production causing the wounds to heal quicker. It is effective in pain reduction for cancer patients. Red Light Therapy helps with the production of collagen as well, speeds the healing process and reduces pain. Red Light Therapy has proven to be effective I like to use this in combination with my microneedler. I have noticed an great improvement in the smoothness of my skin since using this combination.

As I said earlier, my cleansers vary and my moisturizers vary but the tools I use and the glycolic acid are a staple in my skincare routine. I hope my research and trial will help you with your antiaging skincare routine. Thank you for reading.

Proven Biblical Money Principles

We have gone through Financial Peace University twice as well as read Dave's books. I find his no nonsense, Biblical approach to be helpful and motivating. We decided to start on a debt free journey. Read more about that here. We sold our home, paid of our credit cards and cars and we were finall debt free. We built our rental home with cash. After living in our rental for two years, we decided to take out a home equity loan on that  and build our dream home. We have acquired some debt but we know that by following the principles below we can be debt free again.

1. LIVE ON A WRITTEN BUDGET Get on a budget. On paper. On purpose. Every month. stick to the budget. Decide to start managing money well. TODAY.
"For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it?" Luke
14:28

2. AVOID DEBT

This is a hard one for us right now. We are praying through what we feel is best for our family but we will take the debt snowball tactic with what we do have. Look up debt snowball to pay off debt.
"The rich rule over the poor and the borrower is slave to the lender." Proverbs 22:7

3. FOSTER HIGH-QUALITY RELATIONSHIPS
You become like the 5 people you hang around with the most. Choose your friends wisely.
"Do not be deceived: evil company corrupts good habits." 1 Corinthians
15:33

4. SAVE AND INVEST
"In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil." Proverbs
21:20
A foolish man devours all he has... don't spend everything you bring in!
5. BE INCREDIBLY GENEROUS I love what he says about leaving a tip! BE GENEROUS.
... for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 Blessings to all of you and thank you for reading. Grace & peace, Adoring Family

5 Friday Faves πŸ’‹

So happy it's Friday! I'm looking forward to a lovely date w my husband while my kids finish up another week of VBS and then some relaxing family time this weekend. I've put together another 5 Friday Favorites for you so let's jump right in.

My daughter has been loving this pretty gloss. There is a slight sheen to it and it adds only a subtle amount of color.

I have been loving this lip plumper! It has a tingly, minty feel to it and I like that the gloss is more opaque. It can enhance the color of a lipstick or be worn alone or with a lip liner.

A Classical Conversations Mom told me about this bread dipping seasoning and it has been a GAME CHANGER! the seasonings add that special touch that takes any dish from ordinary to wow. I have used all of the flavor combinations and love every one of them. This is a seasoning I will not let myself run out of. It's versatile and can be used on salads, added to oil for bread dipping but I actually use it to give my dishes a special "gourmet" flare. I added the Tuscan Blend to this Savory Summer Soup Recipe and was delighted.

Married For Life
My husband and I have been enjoying this devotion. It’s written by couples who have been married 50 years or longer so the advice they give is sound and proven to work in their own marriages. There is a Bible verse that goes along with each devotion. We love it and it’s nice and short which is easy for us to work it in after a long day and right before bed. We have a few other devotions we enjoy that I’ll get together once I go through all of our moving boxes (yes, we still have a ton of books in boxes🀦🏼‍♀️).

My last favorite is this bubbly probiotic drink. It is slightly spicy but it's subtle and the taste is delicious. It contains kefir which is a probiotic so it is very good for your gut health. It also contains apple cider vinegar which has many health benefits you can read about in this this post.

Thank you all for reading. Many blessings to you today!

Savory Summer Soup

I'm sharing this soup recipe in the summer because its so delicious and one of my staple meals. I still eat it during the summer months even though soups are considered more of a fall or winter dish. It's light yet creamy and makes a great dinner at only 255 calories per serving.

1 block of cream cheese (get the central market organic or the Challenge brand)

1 lb Jennie o breakfast Turkey

1 yellow squash
1 yellow onion medium
1 bunch kale

1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
Garlic salt
Pepper
Season salt to taste

Brown turkey and add in cream cheese until melted (or melt cream cheese in microwave). Add half a pot of water and all the veggies that have been chopped. Season w salts and pepper. Add vinegar. Simmer until veggies are tender.

Hope you love it as much as we do if you try it!
Thank you for reading.
