5 Friday Favorites

Hello everyone and happy Friday to ya!

I am excited about our weekend, we have some fun activities planned. It is our church's Disciple Now weekend so we will have a house full of girls! I am baking LOTS of cookies today and tidying up a few things. Today I’m linking up with Erika, Narci &Andrea for Five Friday Favorites.

There are affiliate links in my post which means I get a small commission if you purchase. This helps out our family so much so if you find this blog helpful and you see something you need, we appreciate it immensely when your purchase from our links.

1st Fav is my new mug and of course the macrons that go w it. I am in love w macrons and get them every chance I get. I know I am not the only one who loves a good mug! I have a cabinet full of cute mugs but when I see something like this I will usually purchase it because they are so unique and hard to find. Marshals sometimes has the macarons and I usually treat us when they do.  I also have my journal that has a Scripture that helped me through a hard time. I put it above my sink and memorized it while I washed dishes. I love this journal because of the pretty birds on the front as well which brings me to my next fav...

2nd fav is my new paper towel holder. My husband is an avid bird watcher and it naturally spills onto the rest of us. I love sitting at our table and hearing Nathan say, oh look, a Carolina Chickadee or the joy for all of us when a rare Painted Bunting shows up at our feeder. We love birds so the beautiful reminders in home decor are sprinkled throughout our home. I have needed a new paper towel holder for over a year and I don't know why I never purchased one. I found this whimsical beauty on Amazon and absolutely love it!

Next fav are these no show socks. Such a great deal for this multipack! We have 8 pair that Emmy and I split to wear w our vans and Adidas. They stay on because of a small silicone triangle in the heal area. I love wearing them w my next fav, my new Adidas.

I LOVE these cute Adidas sneaks! They are silver and white and go with everything, I will let you in on a little secret...They only cost $28! When ordering from Amazon, I will go to the more purchase options section and check to see if there is an open box deal and sure enough, I was able to get a new pair in a damaged box from the Amazon Warehouse. Last I check they had more so if you are wanting some, now is the time!

Last Fav is Gone With the Wind.
Have you seen that movie? I have read the book and seen the movie twice. It had been a great many years and I was excited to see what my reaction would be. It's interesting how time changes a person. Not this time though, I felt the same reaction when watching the movie. I love Melanie. She is such an inspiration to me and I remember praying I could be like her when I was younger. I felt the same as I watched it. Her character is truly beautiful to me. Her kindness and humble heart, how selfless she was and always put others before herself. The wisdom she spoke with. How she treated everyone like they were important. Her husband's dreams were her dreams. There were other parts of the movie that hurt to watch and I even had to get up and go to the bathroom at one point because I just couldn't bare to watch what was happening. I don't want to ruin it for you so I will stop there and tell you that I do recommend it.

Here is a bonus favorite...

One of my all time favorite Scriptures. We all have this one memorized. It has been fun making new friends here and on Instagram but I tell ya, there are a LOT of cute babies pics and my heart has been missing the days when my babies were little. I so love the time we are in now and I wouldn't trade it for anything but this verse is a sobering reminder that we NEED to remember that out days are numbered and we need to make the most out of every one of them. Lord, forgive me when I have failed to do so but I am SO thankful for His grace. the Bible also says that the Lord can redeem the time and that is my prayer as well.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I thank you for stopping by today. Many blessings to you.

Grace & peace,
Sharon

5 Friday Favorites Home Remedy Favs

Hello everyone, so thankful it is Friday. This week flew by for me and seems a bit foggy as we have all been under the weather. I am grateful to be feeling better but Braden and Brookie are still struggling.

As you know, my brother is a doctor and we are so grateful for modern medicine but when
someone in our family comes down with an illness there are several home remedies I run to first...

There are affiliate links in my post which means I get a small commission if you purchase. This helps out our family so much so if you find this blog helpful and you see something you need, we appreciate it immensely when your purchase from our links.

1. Buried Treasure

This is more of an immune support that works fast and tastes terrible. ha! That's how my husband says you know it is working. It has loads of vitamin C, zinc and echinacea. This tincture is the first thing I have been turning to since we discovered it while living in the camper. Six of us living in a camper and five of us had the flu. My husband took this daily during that time and he never got it! If I am feeling like I am going down with a cold, I will will take this twice a day and it kicks it out in a day for me. We ran out when we went to Hawaii because we took it daily before our trip  as we were determined NOT to get sick on the plane. It worked, we were healthy for the entire trip. I would say this is my first go to and I already have a bottle on the way. Next is...

2. Elderberry syrup. SO Delicious.

This simple elderberry syrup is easy to make and contains few ingredients, only that which are beneficial to aid in keeping your immune system in peak performance. I's a wonderful alternative to store bought syrups that usually contain a high amount of sugar which can actually suppress your immune system as I spoke about here,Why Sugar is Sabotaging Your Health .

Recipe
1/2 cup dried elderberries
1 Tbsp. dried echinacea
2 cups of water
1 cinnamon stick
1 cup honey (preferably raw & local)

Simmer all of the ingredients except the honey until the liquid is reduced by half. Let liquid cool before adding honey so as not to compromise the beneficial nutrients and enzymes in the raw honey. Strain, add honey, mix well and you have your syrup! Be sure to keep in the fridge as this will spoil if left out too long. The consistency will be thin but it will taste delicious. I usually add a Tbsp. to a cup of warm water and drink it as you would a nice cup of hot tea.

3. Allimax

The Allicin found in garlic is a natural antibiotic. Allimax has the allicin in a potent form that helps clear you body of bacterial infections. I usually use these when I feel I am getting a sinus infection. It's important that I start taking it right away before the infection gets out of control and will only be knocked out by a more powerful antibiotic. We find this to be very effective and sometimes couple this with silverbiotics. See below.

4. Silverbiotics

I am a firm believer in the power of Silverbiotics. It is a brand of colloidal silver, a natural antibiotic. Even hospitals put colloidal silver on bandages to help patients' wounds heal and fight infection. It is said to shorten the duration of a cold or flu. I have had success in using colloidal silver every time I had mastitis.  There are varying opinions on colloidal silver so I encourage you to do your research and draw your own conclusions but know that our family has enjoyed it's healing benefits for years.

5. Healing Chicken Soup

When we are sick, there is nothing more comforting than homemade chicken soup.

Healing Chicken Soup
2 cups chopped celery
2 cups chopped carrots
2 whole onions, chopped
6 cloves of minced garlic
1 whole, organic chicken
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
Sea salt and pepper to taste
In a large stock pot, place all the veggies on the bottom and place the whole chicken on top of them. Fill the pot with water until it is covering the chicken with about two inches to spare. Sprinkle in sea salt and pepper and vinegar. Bring to a boil then turn down to a simmer for 6 hours. The longer the soup cooks, the more nutrients from the bones are incorporated into the broth. The vinegar is a vital ingredient as it helps draw the nutrients from the bones.
Chicken stock has anti inflammatory properties and contains calcium and magnesium. The stock produced is gut healing and contain amino acids that are similar to medicine found in over the counter cold and flu medicine. The soup is a natural decongestant. You will know you have concocted a good stock when the liquid gels after it is refrigerated.  We love the comforting smell of chicken stock on the stove.

I also diffuse thieves or and I put Vics vapor rub on the soles of my kids feet. It really helps! I stock up on my probiotics and enjoy drinking Kombucha and Kevita's water kefir. If all of this fails we see my brother or, if he's out of town, our backup family practitioner.

I have been feeling anxious and overwhelmed as well. Does anyone else do that when their family is sick? It is during these time that I pray, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I (Psalm 61:2). Let not your hearts be troubled believe in God believe also in me (John 14:1). Also Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus." These are from memory so there may be a few words missing and punctuation could be off but you get main idea of my prayers when I begin to feel this way.
I appreciate you reading and hope you find this helpful.

I hope all of you have a wonderful week. Thank you for stopping by!
Manny blessings to you.

Grace & peace,
Adoring Family
